Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar has said that meeting the UN target for internet prices in Bangladesh is a historic event and a matter of pride for the nation. At the same time, there is no problem of bandwidth in Bangladesh and it will not happen in the future as well, he said, adding that work is underway to make internet prices more affordable. He gave this information in an exchange meeting held with the media personnel of the telecom sector at the main conference room of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Monday afternoon. Speaking as the chief guest, the Minister said that the bandwidth demand in Bangladesh by 2025 will be supplied through SEA-ME-WE-4, and SEA-ME-WE-5 and ITC. Then the demand for bandwidth will increase over time, which can be met with SEA-ME-WE-6. Later, the Director General (Systems and Services) of the Commission, Brig. General Md. Nasim Parvez presented the details about achieving the target of internet facilities. He said that 96 countries of the world had achieved the target set by the UN Broadband Commission last year in terms of mobile internet prices and 64 countries had achieved the target in terms of broadband internet prices. He added that according to the UN report, in 2021, the price of internet in most of the least developed countries of the world was higher than the target set by the UN. However, among the least developed countries, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal have met the targets set by the UN. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Broadband Commission sets a price target for the Internet. According to the target, less than 2% of a country's per capita income will be spent on internet. According to the report, the price of internet in Bangladesh in 2021 was within the limits set by the United Nations. According to the 2021 data of Cable.co.uk, a British company that reviews internet prices, Bangladesh ranks 8th out of 230 countries in the world in terms of low cost of mobile internet. https://digibanglatech.news/slider/72660/ Speaking on the occasion, Md.
